Cline is an open-source autonomous coding agent for VS Code and JetBrains. It plans a change, edits across files, runs terminal commands and iterates on test failures, asking for approval at each step. The extension itself is free and you bring your own API key, so the running cost is whatever the chosen model charges — which makes spend transparent but harder to cap than a flat subscription.
